Operating mode
Does the device work on GSM?
No, the device currently operates via WiFi or a physical LAN connection.
Does the device work with Bluetooth direct connection?
No, the device does not support direct Bluetooth connection.
Is an internet connection required for operation, or is it sufficient to create an internal network with an active connection, e.g. with a switch?
For installation and initial configuration, both the mobile phone and the device must have an active internet connection. However, after installation, an active network connection (e.g. a switch) is sufficient for operation.
What power supply is required for operation? Does it operate from 12 VDC or 24 VAC?
No, the device has a built-in power supply and requires 85-265VAC 47-63HZ direct power supply or operates via a PoE connector.
What PoE voltage level and standard does the device operate at?
The device requires 48V PoE power supply, therefore the device will not work from 24V PoE power supplies.
What frequency does the device operate on: 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?
The WiFi connection works on a 2.4 GHz network.
Is a fixed IP address required for operation?
No, the device is controlled via a server, so it is not necessary to have an internet subscription with a fixed IP address.
What is the environmental IP protection rating of the device?
The device has an IP50 environmental rating for mechanical and moisture resistance.
Do the device's relay outputs provide voltage-independent dry contact?
Yes, the relays operate in NO/NC mode, independent of voltage.
What is the load capacity of the output relays?
The outputs have a load capacity of 250VAC / 2A.
Is it allowed to change operating modes and parameterize the device using the DIP switches while the device is operating, or is this only allowed when the device is de-energized?
It does not cause any malfunction in the operation of the device, in fact the device immediately interprets the change of the switch state. However, for safety reasons, we always recommend disconnecting the device from power supply.
Is there a difference in the accuracy of mechanical (microswitch) and reed relay status feedback?
Yes, microswitch limit switches placed on the rack or gate can detect the actual open or closed state. In contrast, the “switching distance” of REED relays operating on the magnetic principle depends on the strength of the magnet, so the device can indicate a closed state even when the gate or garage door is open by a few centimeters – in case the sensor is “rested” by the force of the operating magnet before it is completely closed.
Is there an auxiliary input on the device that transmits the ringing function to the phone?
None. In such cases, we recommend the GATE CONTROL PRO product.
Can the system be used in parallel with existing remote controls?
Yes, the device can be connected in parallel with the receiver of the existing remote control, or it can be connected to the opening/closing input of the control. (The usability is determined by the technical design of the existing gate control electronics. These may differ in terms of their technical design).
Do the device inputs need to be closed if the limit switch is not connected?
No. After selecting the mode without opening sensor with the switch, the input status is ignored by the device.
How do we see the actual open and closed state of the gate?
The fully open and fully closed states of the gates will be visible if a limit switch or opening sensor is installed in both the fully open and fully closed states. In this case, the fully open and closed states of the gate will also be visible in the application. If the gate is stopped between the two end positions, in this case the “warning” icon will appear on the display.
Does the device operate exclusively in DHCP dynamic IP address allocation, or is it possible to set a fixed IP address in the device?
No, the device only works with a DHCP connection.
What and how is the IN3 input on the device used for?
The IN3 input ensures that OPEN.ioting can be opened with an external device or push button. You can connect, for example, the remote opening push button (rocker switch) of the gate or garage door here, so that the gate can also be controlled with a push button.
What happens if there is no WiFi or LAN access and the device is inactive?
The device cannot operate the gate controller without a network connection. It will become available again after the WiFi or LAN connection is restored.
Can I use the device on an American 110V network?
Yes. The device can be used in the voltage range of 85-265 VAC.
Is it possible to create automatic closing with the system?
No. Since reclosing is a basic function of gate controllers, it is advisable to set this on the gate controller.
Can I provide temporary access to my gate (e.g. during vacation)?
Adding and removing users is easy in the OPEN.ioting device, so it is a good idea to manage temporary permissions in this way. The device does not support a built-in calendar.
What to do if the WiFi network is not available in the garage or at the gate?
The structure and material of buildings and greater distances, e.g. floors and reinforced concrete structures, can shield the WiFi network. We recommend that you test the device at its permanent installation location before installation. The water content of vegetation also shields the WiFi propagation, so you should also test if the gate is placed behind a continuous hedge post or bushy areas. In the case of a detached garage, close the metal panel garage door to see if the device remains capable of receiving reception even in the case of shielding.
Can an external antenna be connected to the device?
No, the device works with a built-in antenna, so there is no option to install an external antenna.
What should I do if the gate control electronics are placed in a metal box (steel or aluminum)? Can I put the OPEN.ioting device in the metal box?
Since the device's WiFi antenna is built into the device, it is necessary to avoid placing it in a metal structure that reduces/shields WiFi reception. Since metal boxes act as shielding and reduce WiFi signal strength inside the box, we recommend installing the device in a plastic box. If possible, in the case of a metal box installation, we recommend connecting the network to the LAN connector of the Ethernet port, so that communication is done via wire and is independent of the WiFi network.
Does the device send an error message if any connection (LAN or WiFi) is lost?
Not.
Is the device suitable for parallel operation on a LAN network and WiFi?
Yes, control takes place via the available network.
Does the device check for a connection between the phone and OPEN.ioting?
Not.
When searching for WiFi networks, does the OPEN.ioting device appear among the WiFi connections? How can I connect to the device directly?
OPEN.ioting WiFi only appears among WiFi connections when the device is in WiFi setup mode. In this case, the device's WiFi network connection can be configured through this connection. This configuration is performed by the mobile application, so there is no need to connect to the device directly.
Why can't the app find a device in the Add menu?
There are two ways to connect the device to the network: via an Ethernet port or via WiFi. In both cases, it is important that the device and the mobile phone are connected to the same network.
In the case of an Ethernet connection, it is important that the WiFi network - to which the mobile phone is connected - reaches the wired network to which the device is also connected. In the case of a WiFi connection, it is important that the device is installed on the WiFi network to which the mobile phone is also connected.
It is also important that the device receives an IP address from the network, so there must be a DHCP server on the network from which the device can request an IP address. When this happens, the IP light (LED) next to the Ethernet connector will turn yellow.
What does it mean that there are X already configured OPEN.iotings on the network?
There may be cases where multiple OPEN.ioting devices are used on the same network. For example, an OPEN.ioting device is installed for both the fence gate and the garage door. In such a case, if these devices are on the same network, when installing the second device, the mobile application will also find the previously installed device on the network and display it.
It is also possible that someone has already set up the device but deleted it from their mobile app. In this case, the device will still be available on the network and will receive commands from other users. You may want to start the device setup again.
In this case, we can factory reset the device using the following process:
Disconnect the device from the power supply, then while turning the device back on, press and hold the WS button on the side of the device for at least 5 seconds, then release it. The device will then be reset to factory defaults.
Why does the device show an exclamation mark in a triangle in the app?
The device failed to register via the Internet. Although it is possible to open the device via a local network without the Internet, an Internet connection is required to register the OPEN.ioting device. This sign will appear until the device has accessed the Internet at least once. When this happens, the device will complete the registration via the cloud, and once it has completed, the gate status icon will appear instead of the exclamation mark and the device will be operational. An Internet connection is no longer necessary, the mobile application can also open via the local network.
What does the “Gate Left Open” notification mean?
If the S1 switch responsible for the setting is in the YES position, the connection of limit switches is allowed. If there is a limit switch, after the gate has been in the open state, if it does not go into the closed state within the set time interval, you will receive a Push notification.
My gate has already opened, but the opening animation is still playing, why?
If you don't have a limit switch, the application doesn't know when the gate opened. In this case, the animation lasts for 60 seconds.
Why doesn't the app show whether my gate is open or closed?
Correct connection of limit switches to the device is required. Without them, the application will not know what state the gate is in.
How do I connect my device to a new WiFi network?
In Settings → Device WiFi Settings.
I reset (factory reset) the device, but it is still listed in the app, why?
The mobile app will not be notified when the device is reset because it loses its access rights. In such a case, the device can be safely deleted, as it will no longer be accessible.
How can I factory reset my device?
Step 1: Disconnect the power supply to the device.
Step 2: Press and hold the WS button.
Step 3: Turn on the device – connect the power supply. IMPORTANT! The WS button must be pressed and held when connecting the power supply.
Step 4: Wait at least 5 seconds, then release the WS button.
Control
What kind of gates is the device suitable for controlling?
The OPEN.ioting device does not replace the gate control electronics that control the operation of the motors required to move the gates. It enables the remote opening of all door and window devices whose control has a control input. These can be, for example, the following: sliding gates, swing gates, garage doors, garage gates, industrial high-speed doors, slatted gates, barriers, bollards, parking barriers, movable road and roadblocks, road obstacles, automatic doors, detective grilles, movable glass portals, metal nets, chain parking barriers.
What input types of gate controls can the OPEN.ioting device be used with?
There are basically two connection modes. Mode 1: The gate control has one input and supports “STEP BY STEP” operation mode. Mode 2: The gate control has a separate opening and closing input. The device supports both modes.
Can two gates be controlled with the two outputs?
No. The number of outputs determines the operating mode. We recommend the OPEN.ioting device for controlling one gate.
Can the gate be controlled with a traditional telephone?
No, as you cannot connect to the device by making a phone call or sending an SMS.
Is the device suitable for replacing gate control electronics to directly control the motor?
The OPEN.ioting device can output an opening and closing contact when fitted to existing gate control electronics, so it does not replace the existing control electronics, but it can replace the remote control receiver.
What happens if only one opening sensor or limit switch is installed on the device?
If the sensor detects opening from the closed state, the system will display the “intermediate state” icon for the opening state and will display the closed state icon again when closed.
Can the gate be opened by SMS or voice call?
No, since the device does not communicate via a SIM card, this is not possible. In such cases, we recommend the GATE CONTROL PRO device.
How can the control pulse length be set to a longer time, e.g. in the case of a shop grille or shutter, or in the case of direct control?
If the device is used in single output mode, the second relay can be used for this purpose. The pulse length of the second relay can be set from the mobile application.
Is the control signal transmission path encrypted?
Yes.
What happens if multiple users want to control the device at the same time? Do you allow multiple connections at the same time?
Yes. If there is at least 1 second difference between the commands, the commands will be sent one after the other, so if two commands are sent at the same time, the gate will behave depending on the type of motor controller. In the case of a single output control mode, this will most likely cause the gate to start opening and then stop immediately.
What happens if we simultaneously issue a closing command via the application and an opening command via a push button?
If two commands are received within 1 second, the device will only execute the first command. So, if we issue a closing command and then an opening command within 1 second with a push button, the gate will only close. However, if more than 1 second elapses between the two commands, the device will also execute the second command, so the closing stops and the gate starts to open.
Is the OPEN.ioting device suitable for other control tasks?
Yes. All control and remote control tasks can be solved where a contact-controlled task needs to be performed and the state of the controlled device needs to be detected. For example, the device is also suitable for controlling an electric patio umbrella, and with the limit switches, the open, fully open and closed states can be displayed in the application.
How much time elapses between the issued control and the relay changing state?
This interval is determined by the network and mobile connection, but is typically around 1-2 seconds.
Can you only use a phone to control it, or does it also work on a desktop computer?
The device can only be controlled via a mobile app, but the mobile app can also be run on a desktop computer. For more information on Windows, search for “Link Your Phone to Windows” and for MacOS, search for “How to run iOS app on Mac”.
Can I control my gate even if I don't have internet?
Yes, as long as it is on the same network as the device and the device has already received internet access once. From then on, the gate can be controlled offline.
Can the device be controlled with a remote control or external push button? If so, how?
Yes, this is what the S3 input is for, which is an (NO) input. The push button or the remote control receiver can be connected here, which starts the control in the event of a short circuit. This may be necessary, for example, in a place where the device is connected to an existing remote control system, as this way the option of remote control opening remains if desired for those who do not have a smartphone or application.

Is smart home integration possible?
Yes, Alexa and Google Home smart home integration is possible.
Guarantee
What to do in case of device replacement?
If the OPEN.ioting device needs to be replaced for any reason, it must be installed in place of the existing device and added as a new device. The old device can be deleted from the devices added in the application.
When does the date listed under “Warranty End” in the device information start?
The server remembers the first registration of the device, this date will be the start date of the installation. The warranty period is 2 years from this date.
Profile setting
How can I delete a user and/or remove permissions?
The following options are available in the device user profile: Invite User (add additional users to the system) and Transfer Ownership (in the event of a change of ownership, the main user can be replaced here).
How many users can we assign to a device within an application?
Within an application, 50 users can be assigned to a device free of charge. This number of users can be expanded: from 51 to 100 users for +25 EUR, or from 101 to 500 users for +50 EUR. Naturally, in the case of 500 users, both prices are payable, so a total of 75 EUR.
Why can't I invite users?
The invited users belong to the OPEN.ioting device. This means that if you have multiple OPEN.ioting devices, they can have different users. Therefore, only the owner of the given device – i.e. the person who purchased it and installed it for the first time – has the right to invite. If you cannot invite users to a given device, you do not have the “Owner” right. Users can only be invited to the device with the “Owner” role. IMPORTANT: A device can only have one owner at a time, but the ownership right is transferable.
How can I accept the invitation I received?
After being invited, you must accept the invitation by clicking on the link in the email and install the OPEN.ioting application.
How do I invite a new user to a device?
With an email address in the device settings, if you are the owner of the device.
What does “Transfer of Ownership” mean?
Users can only be invited to the device with the role of “Owner” and each device can only have one owner at a time. “Transferring Ownership” means that the current owner transfers this role to another user, meaning they will no longer have the right to manage users on the device. They will be replaced by the user to whom they transferred ownership.
What happens if I remove a user from the invitees?
The user loses the right and is deleted from the account.
What happens to invited users if I, as the owner, delete the device from the mobile app?
All users will lose the device (it will be erased from their device). If you don't want this, you will need to transfer ownership.
I deleted the device, but the system still shows that the device is set up, why?
Deleting from the mobile app does not mean resetting the device (factory reset). This must be done manually.
How can I register with an email address / why doesn't it ask for a password?
The purpose of registering and logging in with an email address is to securely log in to the application without having to remember a password. When you register with an email address, a one-time-use key (valid for 24 hours) is created. The key is a 40-character identifier containing numbers, lowercase and uppercase letters, which replaces the password. The system sends this key to the provided email address, embedded in a link. When you open the link with the mobile application, the mobile application creates the account and logs you in using the email address and the sent key.
This login solution is much more secure than using a password, as
- The key is much more complex than commonly used passwords (40 characters, numbers, lowercase and uppercase letters).
- The key can only be used once, so after logging in it cannot be used again, even if the email falls into someone else's possession, the key will no longer be suitable for logging in. (The password can be used more than once.)
- The email account is presumably only accessible to the account owner, and the email account is already protected with a password - so there will be no need to remember and store an additional password.
